They (almost 10-years-old and 7.5-years-old) asked me many times during the last school year, "Mommy, when do you present again?" It's a great feeling to know they have fun in the learning process and love sounds of music too. Delivering a music presentation to young minds is lots of fun - I learn and grow every time. When my sons' classmates see me in the cafeteria, hallway or class, they point to me and exclaim with beaming faces: "Aren't you Sunay's Mom?" and "I know you. You presented in our music class. You're Saavan's Mom!" I light up and say: "Yes!"

She acts embarrassed, as an 9-year-old will, but she lets me know that she feels special and loved when I'm there. The other kids get it too. I'm now "Lauren's Dad" to them, a title I wear with pride. I don't know much about music, but I know the kids are learning. I can't go to the swimming pool or to a local birthday party without the kids trying to trick me into saying "Beethoven" -- which means that they get to clap or sing the first four notes from his 5th Symphony. Or, they'll point to me and declare "there's Handel" because I dressed as the composer when they were in Kindergarten.

We all know that when parents are involved, their children reap the rewards. But, we're involved for the smiles, the hugs from our kids, and the feeling you get when the class discovers something new.
Here's your chance. Give 2 - 4 hours of your time and give the kids 1 or 2 short presentations four times this year:
You're welcome to come to our first training session on Friday, September 15th from 11:30 - 1:00 in the Science Lab (Room 405). No obligation.
Feel free to contact me for any questions you have about the Music Volunteers program. I'm looking forward to working with all of you and learning about great musicians and composers together!
Thanks!
